Ding Li

Ding Li was born in 1979 in Shanghai, and graduated with a MA from the Oil Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, France (École nationale supérieure des Beaux-arts de Paris). He currently lives and works in Shanghai, China. The works of Ding Li manifests a certain faint space that is achieved through a sophisticated layout. The superimposition of images, the variety and juxtaposition of brushstrokes all contribute to create a strong painting-related thickness. The use of graffiti technique reflects a form of rebellion, revolution and street style; it also constitutes a denying attitude but mostly places at the forefront a sense of existence. Ding Li’s skillful mixed technique releases the painting from two-dimensional restraints, to become a combination between individual visual form and attitude.
