Pu Yingwei’s work has been defined as an exercise in conceptual art with a strong utopian zeal. He interprets the multiple narratives of media and identity that he practices in the public sphere as an all-round mobilization. Taking personal history as an absolute starting point and through various facets of work including exhibition, writing, design, lecturing, and teaching, he attempts to produce a kind of “meta-politics” that transcends grand topics such as race, nation, and ethics. Such politics is as complex and full of paradoxes as the reality we experience.

Recent solo exhibitions/projects include: “Pu Yingwei: New Century Encyclopedia”, He Art Museum, Shunde, 2024; “A Study in scarlet: The re-origin of revolutionary realism”, MAMOTH, London (2021); “Obscure Adventure – Speculative Pop & Pan-Chinesism”, SSSSTART, Shanghai (2021); “Pu Yingwei: China Capital”, MadeIn Gallery, Shanghai (2020); “Photoethic: CHINAFRICA”, Jimei x Arles International Photo Festival (2020); “Time, History, Why We Fight”, Hive Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2020); “Pu Yingwei 1989”, Organhaus, Chongqing (2019); “Double Empire”, Nouvel Institut Franco-Chinois, Lyon (2018); “If only it were true”, Galerie Sator, Paris (2018); “Pu Yingwei and Jim Thompson Architects”, J：GALLERY, Shanghai (2017); “Roman Nomade”, Hive Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2017).

Recent group exhibitions include: “Pulse of the Hinterland: The 4th Xinjiang China International Biennial” Xinjiang art Museum, Urumqi, 2024; “Symphony of Coexistence — Chinese and Southeast Asian Art Invitational Exhibition”, Art Museum of SCFAI, Chongqing, 2024; “Perception and Traces: Jinan International Biennale”, Shandong Art Museum, Jinan, 2024; “The Exhibition of Annual of Contemporary Art of China”, One Art Museum, Beijing, 2024; “The 2nd TAG-New Contemporary: Seaward”, TAG, Qingdao, 2023; “Un Dialogue avec la Sensibilité Écriture, Désir, Amour”, Being Art Museum, Shanghai, China, 2022; STAGE/TIME, ASE Space, Shanghai, China, 2022; “Pixel Row: Behavioral Metamorphosis”, West Bund Museum, Shanghai, China, 2022; “Futurism of the Past”, Beijing Contemporary Art Expo, Beijing, China (2021); “Tangle of Revolution and Political Soul”, Shanghai Gallery of Art (SGA), Shanghai (2021); “Almost Paradise”, Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art, Shanghai (2021); “From Checkers to Complicated Systems”, Times Art Museum, Chengdu (2021); “When and Only When, the Strong Wind Roll up the Surge”, Aranya Art Center, Qinghuangdao, Hebei, China (2021); “The Circular Impact”, OCAT Shanghai, Shanghai (2021); 13th Shanghai Biennale: “Bodies of Water”, Power Station of Art, Shanghai (2021); “An Archive Seven Trails”, Taikang Space, Beijing (2020); “Those who see and know all, are all and can do all”, 798 Art Center, Beijing (2020); “Gold en Flow”, CHAO Art Center, Beijing (2020); “Being of Evils”, Hive Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2020); “Dance With It”, Taikang Space, Beijing (2018); “The Comfort Zone At A Distance”, Taikang Space-Light Pavilion, Beijing (2018); “Frontier: Re-assessment of Post-Globalisational Politics”, OCAT Shanghai/OCAT Institute, Shanghai/Beijing (2017-2018); “Fiction Art”, OCAT Shenzhen, Shenzhen (2018); “I Do (not) Want To Be Part Of Your Celebration”, Qiao Space & TANK Shanghai Project Space, Shanghai (2017); “Reciprocal Enlightenment”, CAFA, Beijing (2017).

Recent curatorial project: “Sino-Wharf from Chinatown to Red Internationalism”, OCAT Shenzhen, Shenzhen, China (2018).

Awards include: Porsche Young Chinese Artist of the Year, nominated (2021); JIMEI·ARLES Discovery Reward, nominated (2020); Gen.T Asian Emerging Pioneers List, nominated (2020); second prize of the IAAC Awards (International Awards for Art Criticism) for his essay Empire’s Legacy: On “Pacing: A Journey of 70 Years” and its Silences (2019); HuaYu Youth Award, nominated (2018); Caen Si Cinéma Festival, shortlisted, for his film Interview (2018); John Moores Painting Prize (2012).

[6
post-429","artists","type-artists","status-publish","hentry","artists_categories-collaborating-artists
["GET
